Should smoking around children be banned in a private household or would this be an invasion of privacy? It is illegal in Australia to smoke cigarettes in a vehicle with minors but is this going to far?

It should be illegal around any child unable to defend themselves, even in your home!

Okay, I'm going to give my opinion on the matter and you guys may disagree with it.
I believe you should be allowed to smoke in your own home if minors are there, but I also feel if you do want to smoke- you should do it away from the minors. Whether you're standing outside when you do it, or if you're in your room when you do it. I think it's perfectly acceptable to smoke in your own home.
As for the law in Australia, I think the law is fine since in a car, if the windows are wound up, the child could get lung cancer from passive smoking (secondhand smoke).
